Lesley qualified as a veterinarian in South Africa and then moved to the UK for what was intended to be a short stay to ‘explore Europe’. Over 25 years later, she is still working in the UK. Following nearly 9 years spent in predominantly production animal practice and another 9 years as a veterinary advisor on zoonoses at Defra/ APHA, in 2015 she moved to the public health side, working as an epidemiologist on infectious gastrointestinal disease surveillance and outbreak response. She worked at the UK Health Security Agency until January 2025 and now works in Public Health Scotland.
