I have worked for the Environment Agency since January 2018, leading on policy migration for pesticides and biocides during Brexit and now leading on biologically active substances. These are defined as chemicals detected in the environment that are present as a result of human activities, including agriculture, horticulture, domestic use, sewage treatment, pharmaceuticals and their breakdown products and, last but not least, veterinary medicines. I use Environment Agency monitoring evidence to inform other regulators of potential issues of chemical contamination, and I concentrate on those compounds that will be effectively removed by source control options, such as better end user guidance or landscape interventions.
