The Big Issues module returns to BSAVA Congress and Expo
This year’s BSAVA Congress and Expo will see delegates discussing some of the biggest issues that the veterinary profession is currently facing day-to-day, with the return of the popular ‘Big Issues’ module taking place over the three days of Congress and Expo.

The first day (Thursday 20th March) will see discussions around contextualised care, a concept that has been around for years but has gained increasing traction due to the cost-of-living crisis and the CMA enquiry, and a deep-dive into veterinary costs. There will be several panel discussions, with speakers exploring how the profession can play a role in building a better understanding between vets and clients on the topic of vet fees.

Day two (Friday 21st March) starts off with a symposium on One Health, covering several issues including emerging disease threats, insights into Brucella canis, sustainable parasite control, and a focus on zoonoses. In the afternoon, delegates will be able to hear an update on the CMA review and what to expect from it over the next few months from Martin Coleman, Panel Chair and Panel Inquiry Chair of the CMA.

The final day (Saturday 22nd March) of the Big Issues module will bring discussions from the RCVS on the latest under care guidelines, an update on Schedule 3, and a look at the future of the regulation changes. The day will end with a panel discussion on the ethical challenges that professionals face in practice, and the impact that they can have on individuals within the practice team.

Andy Green, Congress Programme Committee Chair said:

“We are pleased to be bringing back the ‘Big Issues’ module to Congress this year. We felt it was more important than ever to touch upon some of these topics, particularly the CMA review. We hope that delegates will leave these sessions feeling empowered to go back into practice, armed with all the latest knowledge in these topic areas.”

Back for its 68th year, Congress and Expo takes place at Manchester Central on 20th – 22nd March 2025. Advance tickets are on sale until 5th February, book now.
